TRIP REPORT

Our next stop was the Legends Café in Corryong for morning tea . We all filled the tanks with a variety of cakes , sponges and slices , all washed down with an equal variety of fluids ( non-alcoholic of course ).
It was time to leave the black top behind and hit the dirt . After airing down on Touzells Road we headed for Bluff Falls along Lower Dogman Track in the Burrowa-Pine Mountain National Park . Once there , parking was at a premium ; this was a popular spot . We walked about 250 metres from where the cars were parked to the lookout above the falls , then a further 100 metres down the steps to the bottom of the falls . Being a hot day , all the water holes were full of kids and adults bathing in the cool waters . We carried on along Upper Dogman track to Hinces Camp and found a nice ( enough ) shady spot for lunch . After lunch we started down a track but had to turn back because it was just too overgrown . It was now time for the last leg of the trip , up to Embery ’ s lookout on Mount Mittamatite , overlooking Corryong and the surrounding district .
On our way there a young bloke flagged the convoy down looking for help . His mate , who had a tricky knee , had got stuck in a barbed wire fence and kneeded ( sorry about the pun ) help to get back to their vehicle . They had been floating down the Murray and got a puncture in their inflatable , pulled off the river and in trying to get back on the road had jumped a barbed wire fence with tricky knee getting stuck . He had a couple of puncture wounds but nothing too serious . We took them back up river to their vehicle and whilst there we aired up . They were last seen heading off into the sunset .
Embery ’ s lookout was worth the travel even though it was quite a way off the road . We returned to camp around 5:00 pm which gave us enough time to shower and get ready for dinner out at the Courthouse Hotel in Corryong at 6:30 . After dinner , we all gathered around for farewell drinks and sang happy birthday to Sue . Unknown to either Sue or myself , the trip members had all chipped in to buy a cake for Sue ’ s birthday , which was a really nice touch and one which we both appreciated greatly . The whole trip had been fantastic with great tracks and great company . Big thanks to Laurie and Chris for the organisation and a trip to rival the best .
I still haven ’ t been able to collect on those browny points yet . Brian Hay 1497 . For all the beautiful photos taken on this trip please see inside back cover , for colour snaps .
