TRIP REPORT National 4X4 Outdoors Show Pajero 4WD Club of Victoria The show was held between 18th and 20th of August with set up on Thursday 17th. It is encouraging to have many volunteers willing to give up their time (and money) to assist at the club stand. A great deal of interest was shown by members of the public. The location was excellent from the point that many people passed the stand while moving from major display areas. People showed interest in the photographs, including the small photo stand supplied by the Victorian High Country Huts Association, a large map of Australia supplied by Graham Halliburton a non-Pajero Vehicle and in the club magazine. Question were asked about club meetings, number of trips, location of trips, location of the meeting, family friendly, seeking technical advice, training and types of trips. 12 new members were signed up during the weekend. The discounted proficiency course offered to people signing up this weekend encouraged people to join now rather than later. Power was connected to the site which we did not make use of as it was not expected to be provided. In future, the use of the power for displays would be a great advantage. Having a young member on the stand in the way of Bryce Williams on both Saturday and Sunday attracted young people to talk to him. The neighbouring club ran a raffle comprising mainly prizes of ARB recovery equipment which aroused a lot of interest. The raffle was drawn on the last day of the show and provided the club with a profit of $1500. The following is recommended for future shows. I have included alternative points of view as we did not all agree on each item. Graham Halliburton and I are happy to work together to put these items in place before the next show. 1. Where it is provided, 240 volts supply should be made use of to provide electronic displays. It is also great for boiling the kettle on cold wintery days. Alternatively electronic displays caused congestion on some sites and distracted from the main message 2. An induction needs to be run for volunteers with a guide to how prospective members are brought to the point of wanting to sign up. Volunteers who have not had sales experience found it difficult to close the sale. 3. Organise raffle with prizes donated by our sponsors with appropriate sponsor advertising. Need to meet legal requirements and would prefer a designated person to sell tickets 4. Provide a large mounted map of Australia preferably waterproof with details of trips the club has run over the previous 12 months. The map would need an appropriate stand. The map Graham Halliburton provided aroused a lot of interest. 5. Rather than a lot of small photos, a smaller number of stunning photos has more impact. The poster that Franks Amato produced was very effective 6. There needs to be information available for the Pajero Challenge and Muster with the volunteers having a good knowledge of both. Perhaps this should occur after people have shown interest in the club 7. A better showbag with more detailed information which includes a magazine, information on the challenge, membership form, The Muster and Driver training. 8. Several enquires were made about joining online. We need this information including how online applicants are nominated 46© Vol 34 No. 6 Aug/Sept 2017
