Trip Detail
Day 1 – Sunday 7 th February
We met at the Blackspur Inn around 8.30 am and said a quick hi to the club committee before having our trip briefing in the car park . It was an ominous sign that during the briefing , the rain started !!!
We set off from the Black Spur and turned right on to the first dirt road , this led us to the proficiency training ground tracks which were slippery with a few bog holes along the way . At the base of Anderson Spur , the track used for training goes to the right , but we turned left to the more advanced part of Anderson Spur . As we drove up the steep clay , wet , slippery track , Russell blurted on the radio that we normally use this section for the winch course . Maybe he shouldn ’ t have mentioned that because Daniel and Rob needed to use their winches in anger right there and then .
After grouping up again , we pressed on . It wasn ’ t long before another left turn gave another challenge . This time lockers were on . The little red Paj and the Black FJ drove the hill . The 200 Cruiser did some prep work by dropping tyre pressures and had to use all its torque and all of its electronic wizardry to also drive the hill . By then the topsoil that had some traction had broken away ; making it even more difficult for the Paj , the Paj Sport and the big 79 Cruiser . Tyre pressures were reduced , and winches were out in use again .
All of this activity happened before lunch . As soon as we grouped up again ; we took the opportunity to replenish our energy with sandwiches and pies out of Peter ’ s travel buddy oven ( I guess those days of hotdogs in a thermos are long gone ).
