I got involved in the HiStep program in September because I felt like it would be a good place to showcase my talents and help others find theirs.

Helping students get out of their shells and discover new things about themselves was one of the most rewarding things about being apart of HiStep. Writing poetry for the magazine putting together dances , and designing clothes for the talented performers in the program were a few of the duties I had as a member of this program. It also gave me the opportunity to build connections and life long friendships. I’ve gotten a chance to work closely with the creators of Philly Fashion Week and Gift of Life Donors Program.

When I first started out I was a little nervous. Being in charge of others students not much younger than myself scared me a little, but as time passed the students learned to respect and like me. I’ve learned to understand other peoples problem without passing judgment hopefully I continue to apply this to my everyday life after I graduate and say my goodbyes to the HiStep program.

Throughout all of this I’ve learned a lot about myself. For example I discovered that I like teaching and helping others. I also gained organization skills and learned how to work with a team.
