Indiana Fever raises the temperature at SISO Leadership Conference

Show Organisers( SISO) Leadership Conference welcomed 200 participants to the Indianapolis Convention Center in Indiana, USA in August. The 2.5 days were packed with sessions focused on helping exhibition professionals adapt and work within today’ s fast-paced change.
The week kicked off with the annual Women’ s Leadership Forum. Keynote Amber Fox, CEO and general manager of the Indiana Fever women’ s basketball team, shared
her journey with the WNBA from the league’ s inception through superstar Caitlin Clark joining the team( which shot ticket sales and sponsorships through the roof).

To her, leadership is,“ Leading with authenticity – to be myself, honest, transparent and make people around me feel that they are part of the decision-making process. As a leader, when you set a vision, allow everyone to help define their role in achieving it.”
Longtime industry HR pro Angela Scalpello revealed benefits of, and how to implement a reverse mentoring programme. She said:“ Reverse mentoring encourages a growth mindset, and improves engagement and retention within an organisation.”
Last up was a Gen Z panel which provided tips on social media( use it to build trust and community first, then to sell) and all mentioned that life / work balance is a priority in their lives.
The afternoon began with SISO Leadership Keynoter Kenzi Inman, associate VP, business ventures and strategic development- Pacers Sports & Entertainment, from the city’ s mens’ NBA team. She explained the organisation was not a sports team.“ We are a data company, prioritising data acquisition and enrichment at every touchpoint with fans,” and urged delegates to,“ connect every aspect of your ecosystem to learn as much as possible about your audience.”
