Wise heads share recipes for success in a challenging world

ur columnists, in flagging the challenging times

O we are living in politically, attempt in this issue to chart some strategies for not just coping with scenarios involving wars, tariffs, inflation and security, but for thriving and being smart about seizing the opportunities available in situations involving a state of flux.

EW is all about sharing successful ideas, strategies and insights and our nuts and bolts articles this time round include tips from ASP on avoiding common errors that can destroy website traffic( P13), while Uniqode tells us how to make more of QR codes in modern event experiences( P19). The Middle East and Africa were in full focus at UFI’ s recent Cairo Conference and Baris Onay( P26) shares with us his analysis on this market, delivered at the session in Egypt, while Jochen Witt also shares his valuable data on the region’ s performance.
UFI’ s work does not stop and the momentum carries on to the European Events Week in Thessaloniki in early June where many of you may be reading this. The event should be quite an experience as 2025 marks a historic milestone both for UFI and host TIF-HELEXPO who celebrate their centenaries. The event is in a new format as the UFI European Conference has evolved, now offering additional topical content and networking all on one ticket.
I recommend you read Theo Reilly’ s report( P34) on how the recent electricity grid blackout in Spain affected one particular show in Madrid – a story of resilience of our organising community indeed.
Plenty of material from Stateside with a report on the recent SISO CEO Summit in Texas and Stephanie Selesnick exploring the role of customer advisory boards for exhbitions.
And AI is never far away: turn to P31 for RainFocus CMO Ashleigh Cook’ s‘ full journey’.
Finally, perhaps the destination making some of the biggest show floor splashes of late – Saudi Arabia – is the focus of dmg events president Matt Denton’ s contribution( p47) on how to run successful events in the Kingdom’ s new market. EW
