EW explores some regional news highlights in the global exhibitions industry
Australasia – Film and TV festival, owned by Penske Media Corporation, SXSW Sydney will not return in 2026. Organisers confirmed the 2025 edition was its last, ending the Asia-Pacific expansion of the SXSW brand after three years. SXSW Sydney launched in 2023 under a five-year agreement with the NSW government – the final event ran in October of last year. Organisers cited“ a changing global environment” and“ prevailing market conditions” as reasons for the closure. Despite high visitor numbers SXSW is thought to have struggled for sponsorship amidst stiff competition.
Asia – Hamburg Messe und Congress
( HMC) in Germany, is to expand the WindEnergy Hamburg trade fair in Asia through a new partnership with Messe Berlin Asia Pacific( MB APAC). A new RECHARGE Wind Power Summit Asia-Pacific will be powered by WindEnergy Hamburg in Singapore – a two-day event that will take place at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, 19-20 May 2026. Then, in 2027 and 2029, a three-day WindEnergy Asia-Pacific, powered by RECHARGE flagship fair, will follow, aimed at the growing wind energy market in Asia-Pacific.
Middle East – Dubai World Trade
Centre, has signed an agreement with international event organiser, Informa to create inD, a new regional and international business partnership combining DWTC’ s leadership in global B2B event IPs with Informa’ s international scale and expertise. inD brings together a portfolio of more than 40 major B2B brands serving a range of high growth market categories, including Healthcare( WHX), Energy( Middle East Energy), Aviation( Dubai Airshow), Food & Beverage( Gulfood), Information & Communications Technology( GITEX Global) and Information Security( GISEC).
Asia – GLOBUS Events( formerly
VNU Exhibitions Asia) has signed an agreement with Beijing Qiyang International Exhibition Group Co., Ltd., including an equity investment in the Qiyang’ s series of catering industry exhibitions. The move marks GLOBUS Events’ formal entry into the Food & Beverage exhibition sector and strengthens its expansion into high-growth, Tier-2 city markets in China. The agreement was signed by Edwin Tan, CEO of GLOBUS Events, and Mr Gao Yuan, founder of Beijing Qiyang International Exhibition Group, during the Qiyang International Exhibition Group Service Provider Synergy Conference.
