MARINE, MEDICAL and MILITARY
Boat building has traditionally had a strong presence, particularly within the coastal areas of Volusia County where many of the 15 such businesses are situated. The most prominent is Boston Whaler, which employs upward of 1,200 workers at its headquarters in Edgewater and branch plant in Palm Coast.
Daytona Beach is home to several medical product suppliers, including the international B. Braun Medical Corporation, with more than 400 workers, developing innovative medical products for infusion therapy and pain management.
Command Medical Products, Germfree Laboratories and Microflex also specialize in medical product construction within Daytona.
FOODS AND BEVERAGES
Swindle Sauce in Palm Coast has been making a variety of gourmet hot sauces for more than 12 years; and Hill’ s Southern Foods roasts flavorful beef jerky out of their Ormond Beach ovens, selling at farmers markets, retail stores and online. They are just two of the specialty food manufacturers throughout the three counties.
And satisfying adult tastebuds are at least 14 craft beer breweries that have become commonplace gathering spots for residents and tourists. Top it off with five distilleries in St. Augustine, Holly Hill and New Smyrna Beach.
