personal reasons, and they felt no bra, you can’ t be hiding these things away from the people, we need to celebrate it and Goodhope Fm decided to acknowledge the Grandmaster title as well. So for me, it’ s something quite humbling, and I’ m always telling people I regard that as an opportunity to celebrate all the unsung heroes because DJ Ready D, as a profile, as an artist or as an entity within the industry, it’ s never been a one man show. There’ s been a lot of people that has inspired me, my family, members of the Hip-Hop community that doesn’ t get acknowledged for their roles, and of course so many people in our communities that have died and who have sacrificed for so many things, things that we are striving for and so many things that we are befitting of today. So when people say Grandmaster, for me it’ s just an acknowledgement and it’ s a way of giving thanks to everyone that played a very important role in my life.
Since becoming Grandmaster you’ ve had a TV show, you are currently on radio, what’ s next for Ready D? I’ ve got so many things that I would like to accomplish and achieve at the moment. Currently I’ m busy in the studio with a special project as well. I’ m working with a lot of artist that I’ ve met through the radio show. That is the one cool thing of working here. We also have a DJ academy the“ Scratch Lab DJ Academy”, is another thing we have on the table. I’ m also very heavily involved with motorsport at the moment, and running an initiative called SR4A which stands for,“ Safer Roads 4 All”, and that is interacting and helping young drivers or youth who don’ t have a drivers licence, to make wiser decisions and choices, when they’ re out there on the roads, or when they’ re jumping into a vehicle with somebody who’ s thinking about going out there to do illegal street racing, because lives are at risk and there are so many things that impact our society on that level. So that is one of the core focus points at the moment, it’ s a lot of things in the development framework, but what I eventually would like to do is get into motion pictures, in some form of fashion, to tell our stories the way we can tell it because I think there’ s been good stories told, but on a very limited basis, and some of the stories that do get told about our communities is extremely stereotypical. You know it’ s still aartapples, uiwe, tamatie and we’ re still being portrayed as klopse, you know. So my vibe is, I’ d like to get a different prospective and I’ d also like to celebrate people that have succeeded or that are making efforts to succeed. So that is kind of where I’ m at in the terms of headspace, in terms of things I would like to achieve.
