Spangler found that adding the motor made it easier to pull the sweeper; however it created more dust than ever. The dust came out of the machine into the air which he had to breath. Thus, he had to design something that can direct and contain this dust. James Spangler was inspired by the blades of the fan. He enclosed small pieces of the blades into a box and attached it to the sweeper. The motor rotated the brush to get the dust, and then the revolving blades suck up the dust and push it straight into a pillow case that he found in linen closet. He went to try it, but here what happened.. The motor blew the pillow case of the back of the machine because of the pressure. Therefore, he decided to make some adjustments. He changed the shape of the blades
and made the opening different, and after several days of attempts, Spangler became the inventor of the electric sweeper. His invention is still the perfect way to get a carpet clean up till now. In August 1908 Spangler sold his invention to a relative, William hoover that turned this small invention to a big industry by the well-known brand, Hoover.
