I said yes almost immediately with his
request to help judge. We exchanged
numbers, and that’s how our story be-
gan. Getting to chat with Alan over
the next few weeks, we talked about
how our lives at our respective homes
were being pulled apart by strained
relationships, we seemed to have a lot
in common with what we were going
through. Alan had been in a 2 year
marriage, whilst mine was a 25 year
marriage. We talked and talked and
got to know each other a lot better,
Alan could see that I wasn’t happy with
my own marriage, and I could see that
he wasn’t with his wife. My husband
wasn’t the nicest of men and it took
only a few weeks for me to realise this,
with Alan’s help and understanding.
I was making myself ill with how life
was in my home life. In the end I de-
cided to make a clean break and move
out of the family home, and seek a new
life in Devon, after that I didn’t look
The weeks turned into months, and I
was finally happy in my new location.
Things in my personal life turned for
the better too, as myself and Alan grew
closer and we decided to take our re-
lationship to the next level. Over the
next couple of years our relationship
grew and in August 2014 Alan pro-
posed to me, I was shocked but over
the moon in the same breath. I said
yes, and our plans began from that
night. We set the wedding date for
Monday 20th February 2017, the ser-
vice was to be at Lupton House in Brix-
ham at 2pm. We only visited Lupton
once initially, but instantly knew that
this was the ideal place for the start of
our lives together. We also decided
on Hillhead as our wedding reception
venue, we both worked there and we
couldn’t think of a more fitting place
to continue our journey.
Our big day soon arrived, I was stay-
ing at a local hotel in Brixham, the
Trefoil the night before our wedding.
Our photographer Lee Elliott, came
early that morning to the hotel to take
some photographs of myself and my
wedding entourage, including my son
Robert, his girlfriend Michelle, my sis-
ter Gill, flower girl Summer and page
boy Ben preparing to get ready. My
big day had finally arrived, although
It all began back in 2007 really. Myself
and Alan had known each other since
that date. My then husband, along
with my son Robert, were regular
visitors to Hillhead Caravan Park in
sunny Devon. These were our annu-
al holidays of the year. How our lives
began to intertwine started in 2012.
Alan was our amazing camp host and
compere, one night he approached me
to help him with kids entertainment,
judging competitions etc.
back . I attended several job interviews
until I finally managed to secure a job
at the holiday camp we used to visit as
holiday makers, in the camp shop as
shop supervisor.
