SKILL 3 1: AFTER BE; USE THE PRESENT PARTICIPLE OR THE PAST
PARTICIPLE
For these verb tenses the verb be in any of its forms (am, is, are, were, was, be, been,
being). This verb should be combined with any other verb in the present participle or
past participle.
A present participle typically expresses the present action and that in English we can
find it in its form with the aggregate (ING) and it is used in the formation of the
progressive Times .and a past participle expresses a completed action in relation to
the time expressed by the verb in participle. (done, taken, walked, gone)
The present participle formula is as follows:
VERB FORMS AFTER BE
BE + PRESENT PARTICIPLE
BE + PAST PARTICIPLE
BE + PRESENT PARTICIPLE
OR
BE + PAST PARTICIPLE
For example:
I am working in the hospital.
He is singing in the theater.
They were walking in the park.
We are playing video game.
I was studying for my exam.
The book was published last week
The car was repaired by an excellent mechanic.
