Call of the Morning
By Shourya Roy, Kolkata Toastmasters Club
Even though it was midnight
I was wide awake in my bed.
Tears poured from my eyes
as my face slowly turned red.
All I wanted was to forget
the disappointment and the pain.
But, that was never to happen
and the desire went in vain.
As the minutes passed on and on,
Each of them felt like an hour.
Mangled with the mud of failure
All I wanted was a shower.
I needed the night to disappear
I needed sleep to come to my eyes
Instead, I heard the call of the crows.
The sun came up, and it was time to rise.
As I felt the morning breeze
I cleansed my face with water.
It was enough to do the trick
as it finally made the darkness scatter.
It felt like I was a steel sword,
freshly forged out of a fervent fire.
I was finally ready to move on
From wondering about my deepest desire.
