ELVİRA FORTUNATO

She was born in Almada. She graduated in Materials Engineering at the College of Science and Technology of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She completed her PhD in Microelectronics and Optoelectronics, guided by Rodrigo Martins, in 1995.

Elvira Fortunato is currently Professor and Researcher at the College of Science and Technology of Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The research team from the Materials Research Center (CENIMAT), led by Elvira Fortunato and Rodrigo Martins, distinguished itself after the discovery of the paper transistor.

On June 8, 2010 she was awarded the Grand Officer Degree of the Order of Infante D. Henrique.

She has been a member of the Council of National Orders since June 9, 2016.

She has been Vice-Rector of the NOVA University of Lisbon since September 14, 2017.

Prizes

Seeds of Science Award awarded by the newspaper Ciência Hoje.

First prize in the engineering area awarded by the Executive Agency of the European Research Council (ERC).

2010: Femina Prize for merit in science.

2012: Almada City Research Award

2016: Blaise Pascal Medal (materials science) awarded by the European Academy of Sciences.
