THE OLD WHARF BUILDING
Bandırma has a lot of historical buildings. However, most of them are not in
good condition. Fortunately, the ‘’Old Town Hall’’ is one of the best kept ones. It
is the symbol of our town. It also called ‘’The Old Wharf Building.
The old Wharf Building is a typical example of national architectural style. The Old
Wharf Building's construction finished in 1926. When it was first built, it had two
domes over the towers but later, they collapsed due to a storm. Architects built
roofs instead of the domes. There is no definite information about who the whole
building was built by.
When it was first built it was used as loading place for ships used for ships. There used
to be a wharf under the warf building stretching towards the sea. There was a railway
system lying on it. Later, a bigger harbour was built in Bandırma and The Old
Warf Building became redundant. So, later on, the Old Wharf building, served as a
townhall, café, various shops and restaurant. Now it serves Bandırma as the city
Weddinghall.
