Once, a long long time ago, I had a very nice experience.
I very well remember the feeling I had, when I was passionlessly walking to school that morning. I did not think anything interesting could happen that day. I was sitting on a bench in a school hallway changing to my school footwear, when I heard the voice of my informatics teacher: “Hello Beata, I’ve got a proposal for you. Unfortunately, we don’t have time to discuss it now. Why don’t you see me in the computer room after school?” Te entire day I couldn’t stop thinking what it was that she might want from me. I wasn’t even sure where the computer room was!
I returned to school after lunch and after a while I found the computer room. I wanted to enter, but it was locked. Iwent to the main gate, as I had noticed the gatekeeper knew about everything.
She did, indeed. She told me to wait for the teacher because she was attending a meeting....
My head was full of various ideas about what she was going to propose. I had been waiting for about half an hour, when she finally arrived. She asked me, if I knew the yellow and blue characters. I told her I only knew the red and green ones and that I would occasionally see an orange one, too.
I did not understand anything. “So this is what I’ve been waiting for almost an hour, to talk about some stupid characters,” I thought to myself. She looked at me, as if she was thinking about something, then smiled and finally said:“It will be your task, to discover the secret about the yellow and blue characters. I trust you and I know that it is you who can do it. It’s really important. It’s a challenge for you as well as for this school”. I got lightheaded. I didn’t wish to be the school saviour at all. But at the same time a quiet inquisitive voice resounded in my head: “This is just what I’ve always wanted, to explore something.” And I said: “I’ll do it!”
“I knew it,” said the teacher and smiled.” “Don’t worry, you won’t be alone. Jane, Pete, Paul and Annie will help you. Would you like anyone else on your team?”
“Probably you, teacher,” I heard my subconscious say, but I was afraid to say it out aloud. And the quest could begin. Suddenly I realized that out of the whole team I was there alone. So I asked: “How can I use my team’s help, when none of them are here? ell of course, they’re never near when I need them!” I thought to myself. And they call themselves friends. “I can manage even without them. I’m not a complete looser!”
“Do you have QR code reader on your mobile phone?” the teacher asked. I quickly started to think how to respond, as I thought it could have been a tricky question. We’re on school’s premises. How much can I give away about my mobile phone? While in school it should be off and in the bag. Oh no, she wouldn’t play a trick on me. And so I timidly said that although I had a mobile phone, I had no clue, whether there was any reader in it. “OK,” the teacher laughed. “So that’ll be your first task. Off you go now, and perhaps you’ll find help from one of your helpers”. Helpers? It’s easier said than done. Where am I to find them now, when, unfortunately, there’s no one around? I’m thinking and thinking, but I can’t think up anything. QR code..... Maybe I should first look for the reader in my phone, but how to find it? I might have found something like it. But what am I supposed to scan? What code am I supposed to read? This must be some sort of a mystery, a puzzle or something of that kind. I might have to go and find those colourful characters. But how....and I suddenly remembered. Blue and yellow, blue and yellow..... well, of course, by mixing the two colours I get green. In the informatics classroom there is a brand new green notice board and on it, there is.....
.... yes, there is something in blue and yellow colour. It was gradually coming to me. It was a small barely noticeable picture, but a nice one. Do you know why? It represented cooperation and the colours were the colours of our earth, our blue, green and yellow planet. Blue water, without which we can’t live. Green forests, without which we can’t breathe and yellow sun, without which nothing would exist. I’m trying to figure out how to get hold of my team – the QR code reader – I’m looking at the notice board and I see nothing, when suddenly there in the corner is the picture of the planet – I lift it and there’s the QR code – now I just have to find the reader in my mobile phone.
