Melomakarona
(Greek dessert for Christmas )
This is a Greek and Albanian treat generally served for Christmas,There are sweet and
tender biscuits flavored with orange with a touch of cinnamon and cloves and sprinkled with
chopped walnuts
Ingredients for Syrup
500 gr water
800 gr sugar
150 gr honey
3 cinnamon sticks
3 cloves
1 orange cut in two halves
Place all the ingredients in a saucepan besides the honey. Put the saucepan on fire an leave
it until the mixture boils. Take it from the fire and add the amount of honey. When the
syrup gets cold, it’s ready for use.
Ingredients for melomakarona
Group A
400 ml orange juice
400 ml oil
180 ml olive oil
50 gr powdered sugar
1/2 spoon clove powder
1 spoon baking powder
Gratings from 2 oranges
Group B
• 1 kg flour
• 200 gr fine semolina
Prescription
1.Put the ingredients of group A in o bowl and mix the well.
2.Put the ingredients of group B in the another bowl.
3.Then put the mixture of the group A in the second bowl and mix them well until it
becomes a soft dough.
4. Shape the melomakaronas in small pieces with a diameter of 3-4 cm. Prick them with a
fork and put in the oven.
5.Once we take them out of the oven we put them in the cold syrup for 7-8 seconds
6.Put them in a dish and cover them with a certain amount of honey and well-groomed
walnuts.
