As we step into a new year, we pause with gratitude and pride to reflect on the extraordinary momentum built in 2025. It was a year defined by progress, partnership and purpose— one that moved the vision of the Museum of Black History from aspiration to tangible advancement. Because of the dedication of our supporters, board members, community advocates and legislative partners, the Foundation ended 2025 stronger, more visible and better positioned for the work ahead.

One of the most significant milestones of 2025 was the approval of $ 1 million in state appropriations to support the Museum of Black History. This investment represents not only critical financial support, but also a powerful vote of confidence in the importance of preserving, interpreting and elevating Black history and culture. State leadership recognized what our community has long known: that the Museum will serve as an educational, cultural and economic anchor for generations to come. This appropriation moves us closer to realizing a world-class institution that honors the past while shaping the future. In 2025, we also proudly expanded our Board of Directors, welcoming new members who bring diverse expertise, perspectives and deep commitment to our mission. This expansion strengthened our governance, broadened our reach and reinforced our ability to steward the Foundation with integrity and vision. Our Board’ s leadership continues to be instrumental as we navigate growth, build partnerships and make strategic decisions that align with our values and long-term goals.
Another exciting highlight of the year was the launch of our inaugural fundraiser, When All the Saints are Gathered. This milestone event marked the first time we formally gathered supporters, partners and friends of the Foundation around a shared purpose: investing in the future of the Museum of Black History. The fundraiser not only generated critical financial support but also increased awareness of our mission and energized our growing network of champions. The enthusiasm and generosity
demonstrated at the event affirmed the community’ s readiness to rally behind this transformative project.
Equally important, 2025 signaled forward movement on the policy front with the beginning of the legislative cycle. We were grateful for the continued leadership of Senator Tom Leek, who resubmitted legislation in the Senate, and Representative Kiyan Michael, who did the same in the House. Their advocacy underscores the importance of sustained legislative engagement as we work to secure long-term support and establish the framework necessary for the Museum’ s success. We remain committed to collaborating with lawmakers and stakeholders to ensure the Museum’ s impact is fully realized.
