Florida Memorial University( FMU), based in Miami Gardens, Florida, has forged an extraordinary partnership with the Graduate Institute of Financial Sciences( GIFS) in Sandton, South Africa. This collaboration marks a dynamic leap forward in cross-continental engagement between two landmark institutions of higher learning.
GIFS is one of South Africa’ s leading providers of financial services education. Like Florida Memorial University, it is committed to innovation and preparing students to compete in a global economy.
The partnership was formalized during a ceremony at FMU’ s Lou Rawls Center for the Performing Arts, where FMU President William McCormick and GIFS
CEO Dr. Kershen Phillay signed the agreement. The alliance cements a shared purpose to advance academic excellence and global collaboration.
The alliance is part of FMU Global: Africa and the African Diaspora Project, an initiative that connects FMU students with opportunities to study abroad and explore their heritage. In addition to its Africa Project, FMU has ongoing collaborations in Brazil and Colombia, supported by a U. S. State Department grant.
As South Florida’ s only historically Black university, FMU has long championed forwardthinking partnerships that broaden student horizons. The new collaboration with GIFS creates pathways for students to gain concrete knowledge about the
