Dear Friends and Community Leaders,
We are thrilled to announce the formation of the Foundation for the Museum of Black History( FMBH) and the upcoming establishment of a campus dedicated to celebrating the rich, diverse, and often overlooked contributions of Black people to Florida’ s history. The museum will be located in historic St. Augustine / St. Johns, a community with deep cultural roots and over 450 years of Black history.
The Black History Museum of Florida will serve as an essential space for education, preservation, and celebration of the remarkable legacies that have shaped both our state and our nation. From the arrival of the first enslaved Africans to the civil rights movements that emerged across the state, Florida’ s history is rich with stories of resilience, perseverance, and triumph over adversity.
The museum will offer an immersive exploration of Black people’ s contributions throughout Florida’ s diverse regions, showcasing achievements in arts and entertainment, politics, education, social justice, and beyond. Through captivating exhibits, engaging educational programs, and active community involvement, the museum will stand as a powerful testament to the strength and resilience of a community that has profoundly shaped Florida’ s cultural and historical identity.
To bring this vision to life, we call on the support of individuals, families, organizations, and businesses who understand the importance of preserving and sharing this history. Your support— whether through volunteering, sharing personal stories, or advocating for funding and policies— will help ensure the museum’ s ongoing success and accessibility for all.
Together, we can build a legacy that honors Florida’ s Black history and enriches future generations.
