Grand Designs
Live has gained the
reputation of being
the most exceptional
and magnificent home
and garden show in
South Africa, and this
year’s show promises
to be all that and more.
Upcycling is the theme
and even load shedding
has made it onto this
year’s agenda.
“Grand Designs Live is aimed at serious
South African homeowners who are
keen on redoing, redecorating or repurposing their home and garden and
will gain their inspiration from top brands,
beautiful and innovative features and
designers, gardeners and DIY gurus who
will give expert tips, ” explains Sandra
Barrow, Consumer Events Director. “With
upcycling, an item is no longer being
used for its intended purpose, but given
a new purpose, and along with this new
purpose also comes an increase in value.
The opportunities and innovations that
accompany this eco-friendly headspace
are endless and we really want to give
consumers the insight into a host of
available possibilities.”
Aligned to an ongoing move towards
using natural materials and the rebirth
of the artisanal craftsman, the need to
re-use, re-purpose and re-invent older
objects is now a major trend that results in
unique, once-off pieces and offers a gentle
reminder that we should embrace and
celebrate our past, and not succumb to
a disposable, mass-produced and alwaysavailable culture. Launched in 2010,
the consumer event aims to strengthen
the domestic home and garden brand
