The Jiwa Spa at Conrad Bali has a great reputation and
delivers treatments designed for your particular requirements

here are times when you need
some tough love; hard truths as
opposed to flowery platitudes.
It’s true in life and it’s true in spa
treatments where for all the
luxury pampering, sometimes
your body needs something a
bit more, well, tough.
And thus sometimes a visit to a spa where
you know you can be pampered to
ridiculous extremes isn’t quite enough.
The Jiwa Spa at Conrad, winner of the
AsiaSpa Award for Asia’s Best Men’s Spa
in 2013, seemed an ideal destination
to push some boundaries. Its range of
Especially for Men treatments include the
Recharge (see boxout) that matched our
requirements perfectly.
Conrad Suites feels like its own tiny town
and Jiwa Spa is nestled deep within its
luxurious confines. The spa itself has singles
and couples rooms with a reflexology
lounge and private pool, but we were to
go one better after being led to a private
spa villa.
They’re wonderful places to be treated,
with ensuite changing and bathrooms
allowing you to prepare while your
purveyor of relaxation waits in the main

room that is larger than most spa treatment
rooms. Curtains can be closed or left open
depending on your whim.
The main event was a journey of
sometimes exquisite pain as Essential
Bali’s aches and pains were located and
addressed with skilled hands and warm
bamboo. Not that it was all pain; the
treatments inspired by VitaMan skin regime
and utilising its products offered much more
and concluded with a thorough head
massage and face scrub.

Jiwa Spa is not purely aimed at men
looking for something different – far
from it. The menu has myriad options
focused on water and aromatherapy for
a more refined and relaxed treatment.
In the adjacent villa our female reviewer
was having a more sedate 90-minute
Exotic Mahana treatment from which
she emerged looking like a new person,
while your humble correspondent was,
as the name of the treatment suggests,
recharged and ready for anything
