Esports Betting Report
Betting Blocker 2 : Integrity of Esports
Ian Smith , Commissioner of the Esports Integrity Committee ( ESIC ),
Betting Blocker 2 :
Integrity of Esports acknowledges concerns about the vulnerability of esports competitions to manipulation , especially outside of tier 1 games . He stated , " It is right to be wary of many esports competitions ; especially in lower tiers and outside of tier 1 games ( CS2 , DOTA2 , LOL and , on the fringes of tier 1 , Valorant , Rainbow 6 and Starcraft 2 )." He explained that , unlike traditional sports with established regulatory frameworks , esports lack consistent oversight , which leads to fewer safeguards , particularly in lower-tier events .
15 % of the respondents to our survey reported that they are hesitant to bet on Esports because they believe that esports games can be manipulated too easily .

Smith also highlighted a decline in suspicious betting reports since 2020 , saying , “ Yes , there ’ s been a consistent annual decrease in Suspicious and Unusual Betting reports in each year since the peak in 2020 .” This decline followed a surge in match-fixing incidents during the pandemic , when esports betting spiked . The reduction in manipulation cases suggests improved industry efforts to address these issues .
Smith attributed higher manipulation rates in esports compared to traditional sports to factors like the influence of game publishers and the lack of standardised data , stating ,
“ Punters are right to be more wary of esports than most traditional sports . There are additional reasons ; especially for people who understand the ecosystem – the power of the publishers that own the game and the lack of data standards and provision mean it is somewhat riskier as a betting product .”
Smith emphasized that while concerns are valid , the esports industry is improving oversight through anticorruption programs , better anti-cheat measures , and real-time reporting systems , which are gradually reducing manipulation risks and building trust among bettors .
