A Little Christmas Miracle
By Renata Vaicekauskaite
Childhood is the part of our life which should be the happiest time. We
all know that childhood passes very fast. It is full of emotions,
explorations and discoveries. It should be full of love and
understanding and most of all carefree. At least
that’s what I think. But not for everybody it is so.
Every little kid has a very big dream. But not
everyone has a chance to make it come true,
nor have their parents. Three years ago in
my country a social project ‘Children’s
dreams’ was created, whose main goal is to
fulfil the dreams of children living in socially
deprived families. This project starts every
year on 15th of October and ends on 1st of
January. On the internet site named
‘Children’s dreams’ (www.vaikusvajones.lt)
lots of children dreams for Christmas are
published. There you can find a very big
variety of wishes from baby dolls or Barbie,
prams for dolls, Nike shoes, cars, bikes, cd
players or even computers etc. You just have
to go on this site and chose which dream
you can fulfil. There are 3 ways you can fulfil
it: first – you can buy a toy and deliver it by
yourself, you just need to contact a social
worker and arrange a suitable time for you
and that child. Second – you can just buy a
toy and send it to a social worker, and he
will take the present to that child. Thirdly –
if you are busy, you can send money in to
account and
a social worker will buy a toy for the child you
chose. The main point is that it’s not necessary
for it to be a new thing, maybe you have at
home something you don’t use anymore but
it’s still in good condition, you just need to find
a child with such a dream.
This project has been running for 3 years, and
every year for more children their dreams
become true. This year more than 7 thousand
kid’s dreams were fulfilled. And I think it’s
amazing that there are so many people who try
to make a miracle for some kid they even don’t
know. So at least for these 7000 kids who don’t
have a very happy childhood, this Christmas
brings them a small miracle.
