Cinque Terre is a national park in Italian Riviera composed of 5 villages connected with beautiful hiking paths (and by train and boat for the lazy ones) that I have recently visited and covered throughly on my Instagram (@beneaththecoat). Since some of you only follow me via blog, I have decided to write down my thoughts as a complete guide to this beautiful region in Italy.
Getting there
There are two airports serving this region, Pisa and Genoa, both take one hour train ride to the closest village. The worst way to explore Cinque Terre is by car, unless absolutely necessary do not choose this option. If you are travelling by car, there are well secured parking option in the nearby La Spezia (20€ per day), from where you can take the train to easily reach any of the villages.
The best way to explore Cinque Terre is either the train or on foot, choose the first if you are short on time. If hiking, keep in mind that the famous Via del Amore hiking path between Riomaggiore and Manarola is closed until further notice. You can explore the region by boat too, in a group or privately. We have rented the boat privately for half a day (100€) and I am not sure I would recommend it. Either opt for a more luxurious boat (if they are offered) and make sure to book for the whole day so you have enough time to anchor some place nice and relax.
