2014 24 Hours of Le Mans
The TS040 of Kazuki Nakajima, Alexander Wurz and Stéphane Sarrazin had lead the 2014 Le Mans for fourteen hours after surviving the attrition brought about by torrential rain during the first 90 minutes of the race. After the sister car being driven by Anthony Davidson came together with a Ferrari GT on the Mulsanne Straight, all eyes were on the number seven, Nakajima, Wurz, Sarrazin entry.
Audi had pushed Toyota by running longer stints on their tyres and – as it turned out – better communication. When the number seven Toyota experienced its (eventual race-ending) electrical fire during the early hours of Sunday morning, it was remarkably an Audi driver who radioed to their own garage of what had transpired.
Toyota however wasn’t in contact with Nakajima because due to a faulty radio connection. Toyota even reverted to calling Kazuki on his cell-phone, but all attempts were for nought when the TS040 gave up at Arnage at 5am.
