It was plain sailing then on for Treluyer the #2 Audi, helping Lotterer, and Fassler record their third victory in four years with Kristensen,, di Grassi and Marc Gene (subbing for the injured Duval) completing an astounding 1-2 result.
In the background, Anthony Davidson, Nicolas Lapierre and Sebastien Buemi probably put in the drive of the race, recovering from a flash-flooding induced accident to score an unlikely podium. Bittersweet consolation of course, but a reminder of the devastating pace of the TS040 Hybrid.
On the periphery, Rebellion Racing recorded a simply incredible fourth place in the (still green) R-One privateer LMP1 prototype, courtesy of Nick Heidfeld, Mathias Beche and Nicolas Prost. Only a month and a half ago the R-One debuted at Spa with an array of teething problems.
You really never can tell.
