CATERHAM MAKE A WITHDRAWAL
In a shock decision, Caterham has withdrawn its LMP2 entry from both the Le Mans 24 Hours and the European Le Mans Series, one day after their participation with the Greaves Zytec was due to be announced.
A statement from Caterham read: "After making its Le Mans 24 Hours debut in 2013, Caterham had considered campaigning in the famous race again. However, after securing only a reserve slot on the Le Mans 24 Hours grid and with many other important engineering programmes already underway, the decision was taken to withdraw."
As such, Caterham Racing's Zytek-Nissan Z11SN was listed under the unpromising title as third reserve among the prototypes for Le Mans.
It’s believed that 2013 reserve Caterham F1 driver Alexander Rossi would have competed had taken place and it it understood that there are no plans plans for a Greaves Zytek to race in Caterham colours in the remainder of the European Le Mans series.
Greaves Team boss Tim Greaves, whose team has been listed as a solo entry, said he still intended to run two cars in the ELMS and Le Mans under his team’s own name if possible.
Chris Dyson (a former ALMS champion in 2011), was listed in the Caterham entry for both Le Mans and the ELMS, but will now sidestep to the Greaves aquad for Le Mans.
