One of the most difficult things to get right with models is scale. This is especially true of details, whether it is a part of the sculpting (like wrinkles or veins), an aspect of a color pattern, or even pieces of equipment. Out-of-scale details undermine the impression of realism that is the ultimate goal of most model horse activities.
