The NSEA Interschool Regional Qualifier at Arena UK for the Schools National Championships ‘went off at a gallop’, with 28 schools taking part, from as far away as St Felix School in Suffolk to Huntington School in Yorkshire in the North and West to Twycross in Warwickshire. The range of riders attending encouraged a healthy sense of competition and a real passion for equestrianism. 150 riders completed over 260 rounds of showjumping and 57 dressage tests, competing in 3 arenas. Assorted national representatives came along to support the event from British Showjumping and British Dressage, promoting membership and donating prizes; 2 Army Officers promoting career opportunities working with animals in the forces came to talk to young competitors; along with a number of class sponsors’ representatives. Hosted by FaBHSES, a consortium of three schools working together to stage the event for the East Midlands Schools. Co–host Belvoir High in particular had perhaps the most success of the day taking 7 of the 27 qualifying positions across the classes! Belvoir teams qualified in 1st place in the Ultimate Learning Resources 70cm and Boynton’s Arenas 1m SJ class and 2nd in the Gladstone Solicitors 80cm class. With a further 4 individual qualifiers in SJ and Dressage, the Belvoir team captain Jess Walker led the way retaining the Individual 1m Open title from last year!
