Riders can join at any age (u25) and be made welcome and have riding lessons at their own ability level. We have regular varied rallies with experienced approachable instructors held at venues around our area including at Brackenhurst, Danethorpe cross country, Vale View, Newton amongst our regular locations. These are run in evenings, weekends and in school holidays and range from an hour long session to fun filled day rallies with picnics. Offering training in dressage, showjumping, tetrathlon and eventing we encourage our young riders to experience all elements. We also organise shooting, swimming, and running sessions to help our members, again all suitable for any age of young rider. Many of our members enter the numerous local and national prestigious competitions open to pony club members and have had wonderful experiences at venues such as Hickstead, Burghley, Windsor and Chatsworth. In 2012 our branch won the national Pony Club showjumping championship at Cholmondley Castle and had high level of national results in eventing and tetrathlons too. We are hoping for success for our dressage riders this year too. We run a fun filled residential camp each August at Southwell Racecourse for all ages and this is the highlight of the year to many of our members. This incorporates a week of dedicated riding instruction, sleepovers for our older riders and wonderful activities such as bowling, swimming, bouncy castles and yummy food. New members are very welcome so if you would like to join our pony club contact Alison Turner 01476 561269 email. [email protected].

After evening stables, all those camping enjoy organised fun and games in the evenings ranging from quiz nights, karaoke or a disco. Parents and volunteers are always on hand to help the children and there is always 24 hour supervision and security. Pony Club Camp is a fantastic way for younger children to gain confidence away from the family home for a few days, making new friends, learning the ropes with their pony. For the older teenagers in the group, these can be the building blocks for a career with horses or gaining experience for leadership and delegation skills whilst enjoying 5 days away with friends, both 4-legged and 2-legged! It’s not just the members who benefit though; parents also enjoy the social aspect, whilst helping out with making lunches, bun runs and jodhpur washing!
