For the first time SWPA
took their Summer Show to
Stretcholt Equestrian Centre
and as there had been such
a long period of hot and dry
weather, the ability to use
indoor and outdoor arenas for
the major ridden classes was a
blessing, and even the in hand
grass rings afforded tree shade
to avoid the blazing sun.
With many on their way to The
Royal Welsh starting the following
day, numbers were slightly down,
but competitors came from as
far afield as Wales, Hereford and
Cornwall to compete.
NPS Silver medals were on
offer and in hand Suzy Pound
was delighted to receive one
with her new young Highland
pony, Carlung Nevis. Suzy stood
reserve to Karen Hodge’s Fell
mare Inglegarth Preview who
was not eligible for the Silver
Medal, but who took the SWPA

Supreme In Hand qualifier for this
September at David Broome’s.
Champion in the NPS ridden ring
was Alex Williams from Cardiff,
who won with his section B
Welsh Pony Dymock Kickstart.
He also qualifies for the SWPA
Supreme Ridden at Broome’s,
and standing reserve to Alex was
Caroline Sutton’s Welsh Section C
Peasedown Scarlet exhibited and
ridden by Jess Talbot.
For the mini-ridden
championship, Lucy Grainger’s
exhibit the M&M Lead Rein pony,
Llanai Pikachu ridden by Chloe
Groves, stood Champion with the
novice First Ridden of Stephanie
Luck, Uppacott Sonoma ridden by
daughter Karabel Holman-Luck,
taking the reserve slot. The Junior
Ridden went to Martine Harding
on her Connemara, Dreamy Gent
with Jess Talbot riding her other
Section C pony, Peasedown
Bombay Sapphire standing
reserve.
