All too often we run to God with our issues, complaints and concerns only to experience a temporary reprieve from the forces of life. Surely when we sing “I surrender all. All to thee our blessed Savior, I surrender all.” we mean it. That is until we are reminded of our issues by pain, phone calls, bills, loneliness, fear, rejection, doctor’s appointment, marital discord or disrespectful child.
Many times before we have dried the tears and before we have gotten in the car to return home we have retrieved our own burdens. What happen to the sweet relief we experienced on Sunday Morning- during worship? Did anything really happen?
Of course it did. According to Dictionary.com, the altar is a place where religious rites or sacrifices are offered up. It is where we bring our cares before the Lord (1 Peter 5:7) and He hears us when we pray (1 John 5:15). The altar is like this body of water between that which is natural and that which is spiritual. Perceive the altar as your Spiritual Ocean of faith.
Great things happen on the water: just ask the disciple Peter about it (Matthew 14); miracles are done at the water -the children of Israel or with water- Jesus at the wedding in Cana, and ultimately the Living Water himself is Jesus the Christ. There is never a draught spiritually.
