treatment of fractures, soft-tissue injuries, and reconstructive surgery. Prosthetics include
artificial joints and any other artificial body parts, which also cover artificial teeth.
The orthopaedics and prosthetics market in Malaysia was valued at RM291 million in 2015, which
recorded a CAGR of 8.8% between 2010 to 2015. It is expected to continue its positive growth
between 2015 to 2020 at a CAGR of 10.5%. The growth of this sub-sector are mainly driven by
the increasing number of musculoskeletal diseases such osteoporosis, as well as increasing
obesity problem where studies done have shown that Malaysia has the highest prevalence of
obesity within the ASEAN region. These factors will drive the demand for many types of
replacement surgeries and implants.
