Transcontinental Railroad: Our Step Towards The Future
Is the transcontinental railroad amazing or just a waste? In my opinion, it is a remarkable invention. A common thought is, “Well, of course it is remarkable! We get to reach our destination faster and goods are being shipped quicker.” However, no one has ever stopped to think about the people who are building the railroads. Chinese immigrants have to work for the Central Pacific to build the transcontinental railroad. If they encounter a mountain while building the railroad, they have to blast through it. The railroad workers barely get enough food to eat because all they get to eat is bread. The only time they eat well is when groups of pro hunters are sent out to shoot thousands of buffalo and the railroad workers get to eat some of them.
Building a single railroad is difficult work but I still believe that the transcontinental railroad is a beneficial invention. I understand that many Chinese immigrants died during the process of building the railroad but at least they got jobs. Those who survived will always remember that they were the reason for this grand invention. Many immigrants that came to America to build the invention decided to stay to start a new life, so if you think about it, the transcontinental railroad benefited them, too. Just like many wars, thousands of people died but they were fighting for their country and they are remembered as veterans.
The transcontinental railroad is a glory to all and everyone should appreciate it. Blood, sweat, and tears were poured into this amazing creation yet no one appreciates this invention enough. All they do is hop on their train and once they reach their destination, they get off. They are not even a little thankful and they do not show the slightest bit of gratitude. They need to be more appreciative and respectful. So, many people just think that the transcontinental railroad is a waste, right? That’s what it looks like because they don’t even stop to say thank you. But, what is the answer then, amazing or a waste? It is amazing to some, but a waste to others.
