The immigrants have come from all over the globe. They came during the 1850’s to the present day. They came over in a boat and they expected to see big cities and streets paved with gold. They saw half of that, which they saw big cities. They have come from Italy, Ireland, Norway, Germany, and even England. They came for many different reasons such as persecution, freedom, and a new life and opportunities. They are hoping that it is just as the people said it would be. They also thought that it would be easy to get started in this new life. They are having quite a tough time getting use to America. Most still observe their religions and practices. Some are having a hard time learning English and they need to know this to communicate with other people. They are also having a hard time adjusting to the new time zone of the sun, and that affects how well they sleep.

I have interviewed John Botticelli and asked him what it was like to come over here and he said, “It was long and boring, but it was worth the wait and the Statue of Liberty was absolutely phenomenal when we saw it. We are all so happy to finally have the freedom that we wanted for so long.” This is what the immigrant’s new life is like.
