Harriet Tubman; a current legend
By: Delilah Medina
When she is a spy for the Union army she runs the risk of get caught every day, and she almost does on a daily basis. Just a few months ago she was serving time for the Union, during this crazy dangerous civil war; she was stationed in South Carolina the majority of the time. Since she is a woman, the Union also appointed her to being a nurse for the wounded and dying. When men would get shot and/or wounded from shrapnel, she would have to go on the battle field and take them into what was usually a tent-like shelter and treat them. The majority of the problems she would have to deal with were, but not limited to: illness, cuts, gashes, or half cut off limbs and body parts. Even though she was a tremendously great spy and nurse, her legacy is mostly being based upon the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad is a tunnel, in which she is leading runaway slaves through. It leads all the way from the south to the north. She is leading them to the north because; in the northern states there was usually no slavery. She also takes them to the north because a majority people would not turn the runaway slaves in. This woman, Harriet Tubman, is really making a name for herself.
