Breaking News: Abused Children!

According to officials, children have to work thirteen-hour days, instead of going to school! 1,750,178 children between 10 and 15 years old are employed, according to officials. Children are also dropping out of school to support their families. Four million children under the age of 18 are employed. Breaker Boys, who work in mines, are paid only one dollar to three dollars a week. It has been proved since children have to work so much, and get little rest, they often get ill. Boys under twelve carry heavy glass during the night, for a pay of anywhere from forty cents and a dollar and ten cents. When parents cannot support their children, they often turn them over to a mill or a factory, so they can work. Children as young as eight and nine are falling victim to these child laborers. Exhausted laborers sleep and live in abandoned alleyways or buildings. The new Oliver Twist book by Charles Dickens came out, publicizing and exploiting child labor. The work does not stop when the children go home, if they have a home to go to. Employers send the work home with the children, expecting them to finish the work, rest, eat, and come back to work the next day with it done. Many children who work are orphaned, and still alive because of the money they make. Employers like employing children because they have smaller hands can be paid less than adults can, and they fit in small places that adults cannot. That is the daily news for today.
