PROJECTS Cass County Courthouse The Cass County Courthouse project was complex due to the Heating Ventilation and Air Project Information Conditioning System in the building. The Courthouse was required to operate 24/7 through any type of emergency event. The mechanical heating systems are 100% redundant and LOCATION: Fargo, ND capable of operating on fuel oil or natural gas. YEAR COMPLETED: 2012 The HVAC System is an energy efficient system. It utilizes variable air volume and variable SIZE: 70,256 sq ft heating water volumes that use the least amount of energy possible as the heating cooling loads change throughout the day and throughout the seasons. The natural gas condensing boilers are the primary source of heat for the building and are highly efficient; attaining up to 98% efficiency during optimal operating conditions. The $ MECHANICAL COST: $2.6 million TOTAL PROJECT COST: $14.2 Million boilers attain their efficiency by bringing as much energy out of the combustion air as possible. In the courtroom, low ambient sound was a major concern. Terminal ventilation systems and equipment were selected to provide quiet operation. The Cass County Administration was also concerned about sound transmission to the neighboring homes, so, the large cooling equipment on the roof was located to minimize the sounds transmitted across property lines. The Automatic Temperature Control System is State-of-the-Art. It allows the maintenance staff to “see” what is going on inside the heating, ventilation and cooling systems and trouble shoot any issues that may arise. The control set points are adjustable and observable at the operator work station allowing the staff to determine the cause of potential problems and determine potential corrective action.
