music Q & A with Bruce Macksoud, lead vocalist of Blurred Vision Dance Band New England’s Premier Party Band • Specializing in Weddings & Private Events! When to book: Typically it’s a year in advance, but it doesn’t hurt to start looking even earlier. Make a case for why couples should consider hiring a live band. There’s nothing [email protected] [email protected] B LURRED V ISION D ANCE B AND like a live band, particularly if it’s a good band that fits your desired genre. It allows for more interaction; I can get out in the crowd and really get guests pumped up. And we’re so versatile. One of our packages includes the six piece band for the reception with our DJ — FrankiJay Productions — playing during dinner and breaks, as well as a live performance by our unbelievable female vocalist, Christiana, at the ceremony. What do you typically play? Top 40, pop, funk, disco…anything, honestly. We always ask couples in advance for a list of any songs they may want, whether it’s a first dance song, a party song, an ethnic song, etc. And we also take pride in the fact that we like to learn new songs specifically for the couple. It's more meaningful. What are some hot songs to play at a wedding right now? For dancing: “Shout”, “Brick House”, “Play That Funky Music” and then anything by Bruno Mars or Beyoncé. As for first dance songs, it’s so individual to the couple. But I would say some popular choices are “At Last” by Etta James, Michael Buble’s rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight,” or any of Ed Sheeran’s ballads. If you’re considering a live band, go out and see them perform in person — don’t make a judgement based purely on a review. And if you can’t catch them at a show, set up a private session. We typically invite couples to practice so they can listen to our stuff and we can all get to know each other. It's a good time. But we also take it very seriously and we really consider it an honor to play at someone’s wedding.
