Eagle Edition Enrico Fermi High School/Enfield High School Community Newsletter January, 2016 Quarter 2 Ninth Grade Students Use Home Access Center to Analyze their Grades By Kathleen Bridges The Home Access Center is a fantastic tool for students to use to monitor their class work and grades. This year, students from 9th grade Algebra 1 classes learned about the importance of analyzing their grades when using Home Access Center. Students were also given some tips on how to survive their freshman year successfully. Students worked with Mrs. Bridges and were asked to use a Weekly Progress Report and Study Plan sheet (see example) to record information about all of their classes. Students then had to: choose a class to focus on for the week. identify a specific reason why they were having difficulties with this class. devise a study plan to improve their grade. Students came back to the computer lab the next week and recorded their study plan results. Students had to decide if their study plan had worked. This activity encouraged students to focus on their continued improvement, not just on their grade on any one test or assignment. evaluate their progress by encouraging them to critique their own work, analyze their strengths, and work on their weaknesses. become an active participant in the process of their educations and become more independent and responsible for their own learning. As a parent you can also use this tool to have a conversation with your child about their class assignments before, during and after the assignment has been turned in and not necessarily wait until report card grades have been posted. Your child's daily schedule and teacher's emails can be accessed through HAC as well. Successful students get involved in their studies, accept responsibility for their own education, and are active participants in it!
