Eagle Edition Enfield High School/Enrico Fermi High School Community Newsletter January, 2016 Quarter 2 Continued from page 8 …and “Dare to be different, for if you don’t you’ll end up one step behind and forever lost in someone else's dreams.” The day commenced with an enlightening panel discussion of advice and an opportunity to ask questions. One Fermi student, Aliyah Morgan, summarized the experience: What I liked most about the day was the panel discussion with three women: Diane Drakes, Annabelle Diaz, and Jaunice Edwards. I liked their honesty about the obstacles they faced as kids in getting an education and as women in the job sector. Two women shared that despite most peoples skepticism they still succeeded. They are currently trying to make a positive impact on educating females of diverse backgrounds. The ladies stressed that women of color should stand together and encourage one another rather than drag each other down. What I remember most, is being told “always believe in yourself! “ I also enjoyed the chance to attend the conference with EHS students. Spending the day together made me feel like combining the schools next year, won’t be as bad as I thought. The Child Development Lab course has an amazing hands on component! We have been partnering with Enfield Head Start for the past 6 years. The Enfield High School students have a unique opportunity to put theory and knowledge into action. Head Start's mission and the Enfield High School mission are similar in that they seek to "provide a foundation for children and families to achieve their full potential and be able to effectively contribute to changing society."
