Rachel’s Challenge
Day of Kindness
December 19th, 2014
The Rachel’s Challenge clubs of Enfield High School,
Fermi High School and JFK Middle School collaborated to carry out a “Town-wide Day of Kindness”. On
Saturday, December 19, students and staff from the
three schools performed acts of kindness for the residents of Enfield.
On Saturday, the three schools worked together to
put on a Free Pancake Breakfast for al l town residents. The breakfast took place at St. Patrick’s
Church from 8-10 a.m. The breakfast also served as a
collection site for non-perishable food items to support the Enfield Food Shelf and Enfield Loaves and
Fishes.
Rachel’s Challenge is a program designed to equip
schools to create and sustain a safe, caring, and supporting learning environment. The program, Friends
of Rachel (FOR) is named in memory of Rachel Scott
Joy, victim of the 1999 Columbine shooting, and her
commitment to paying kindness forward.
FHS & EHS Student
Leadership Day
On 1-11-2016, 32 girls from Fermi and
Enfield High School, traveled to Quinnipiac University to attend the CT Student Leadership Conference for Young
Women of Color, sponsored by the
Connecticut Association f Schools
(CAS). Over 100 females from across
the state were inspired by a keynote
address by Janice Castle, a senior
consultant at Travelers. The girls
danced together and participated in
breakout session focused on identifying their leadership qualities, college
admissions, and college life. They
chanted, “My voice has power to
change!” continued p. 9
The pancake breakfast was such an incredible experience! The
atmosphere was so positive, and it was endless thanks to the
FHS, EHS, and JFK Friend’s of Rachel (FOR) club members.
From the endless amount of pancakes to the arts and crafts
tables filled with little kids, there was never a dull moment.
Everywhere I turned there were families and friends smiling
and laughing. Not only was the pancake breakfast for a good
cause, it also brought townsfolk together. One of the best
parts of the event was the raffle. Thanks go out to staff members and teachers, who helped to fill six tables with baskets of
food, gift cards, and more, that were raffled off. The proceeds
were donated to The Little Sisters of the Poor, Enfield Loaves &
Fishes, and the Enfield Food Shelf. This event was wonderful!
Thanks to all who came out to make it
so special. The band played Christmas tunes and children were able to
visit with Santa and his helper Buddy!
The pancake breakfast was truly one
of the best times I had in volunteer-
