Enfield High Newsletters - Eagle Edition EHS Newsletter- December 2019

Eagle Edition Enfield High School 2019-2020 December 2019 A Message From Our Principal Greetings EHS Families and Friends, It’s hard to believe we are already approaching the end of 2019! The first few months of school have flown by as we distributed more than 1500 iPads to EHS students. Our faculty has been hard at work incorporating this new technology into our day-to-day operations. It has been exciting to watch our teacher leaders identify ways to use these devices to make learning more interesting, engaging, and accessible for our students. Even though we are in the very early stages of deployment, our faculty is already pioneering new strategies at a rapid pace. If you were to walk through EHS you would find students in physics and chemistry classes measuring friction and plotting heat using iPads and Vernier probes. You would find students creating how-to videos in Calculus, participating in online discussion boards in World Language, and creating electronic portfolios in Art. In addition to providing more opportunities for creativity and innovation, these devices also have the power to help our students improve their organizational skills. Many of our teachers are now using applications like Microsoft OneNote to help students organize digital notebooks. Using Unified Classroom, a feature of PowerSchool, teachers can now distribute and collect assignments electronically, thereby improving communication and productivity for students. While we have made significant progress in the past few months, there is still much underway. Our technology and leadership teams are working to improve the integration of various platforms like Apple, Microsoft Office, and PowerSchool. We are also brainstorming creative ways to provide students with quick and responsive technology support. Furthermore, we are designing curriculum that ensures our students have the skills needed to be capable and responsible digital citizens. While we do our best to be proactive, innovation also requires flexibility and adaptation. We had to revise several processes over the course of the year to better meet the needs of our staff and students. If you have ideas on how we can improve, please consider attending Parent Advisory, an open forum where parents can ask questions, make suggestions, and play a meaningful role in shaping our school’s practices. Our next Parent Advisory meets on January 8 th at 5pm in the cafeteria. Parent advisory is a forum to discuss other school initiatives such as promoting a positive school climate and supporting students’ social and emotional learning. Additionally, please note that every 90 days, Enfield High School students are required to change their passwords. The first 90-day cycle is coming up during the December break. Instructions on how to change one’s password are available on our website under the Ed Tech tab. If students need assistance with this password reset, they may visit our library media center or their dean’s office. Over the December break, I hope all our students and families have a chance to spend quality time with one another. On behalf of the EHS school leadership team, I would like to wish all our students and families a very happy holiday and health, peace, and happiness in 2020! Sincerely, Erin E. Clark Principal
