The football team started off hot by winning their first four games straight beating East Hartford 47-44 in a back-and-forth game . Then they beat Westhill 21-14 , Bristol Central 28-14 , and Newington 42-7 .
After the bye week Enfield had to play two fierce competitors in Berlin and Windsor . The Eagles lost 27-20 in the last minute against Berlin and 65-28 to Windsor . Enfield had their chances against Berlin but fell short in the final minute . Against Windsor , Enfield ’ s defense just couldn ’ t hang with Windsor ’ s explosive offense . After that they picked it up beating Wethersfield 55-35 for their senior night and then beat Middletown 42-28 . After the Middletown win the Eagles were at 6-2 and were in great position to make the playoffs for the first time since 2003 .
The program was riding high heading into their Route 5 Rivalry game versus South Windsor . In a hard-fought game , South Windsor made a few more plays than Enfield and won 28-21 .
Going into the final game , a continuation of the lightning delayed game week 1 , the Eagles still had a chance for the playoffs if they won and got some help against Manchester . It came down to the final play as the
