MANAGING CONFLICT IN NURSING IN SLOVENIAN HOSPITALS
Introduction: In nursing often experience conflict. The most common sources of the conflict between employees in nursing are personal differences, lack of clear description, high level of stress and uncertainly job. The aim of the study was to identify the dominant conflict resolution style and their effect on employees ' job satisfaction. Methods: Quantitative research based on a cross-sectional study was used, with the 640 employees in nursing from eight Slovenian hospitals that participated in the study. A structured survey questionnaire was administered. The relationship between variables was analysed with correlation and linear regression analysis. Results: The most common conflict resolution style was collaborating, followed avoiding, accommodating, compromising and competing. In the research we found that collaborating and compromising positively correlated with teamwork, communication, and job satisfaction. Regression analyses indicated that collaborating conflict resolution style( β = 0.212; p = 0.004) and compromising conflict resolution style( β = 0.099; p = 0.037) influenced on job satisfaction. Discussion: In the study was found that conflict resolution in nursing associated with teamwork, communication, work stress and job satisfaction. Health care institution will be successful and achieve their organizational aims, if their employees satisfy with the job. Conflict management and resolution requires many professional qualities and skills. To effectively and appropriately conflict solving, all employees must understand the causes, theories, approaches and strategies of conflict management and resolution.
