Dog Days of Summer...
Even though school is back for fall, our sched-
ules go into cray-cray mode, and we can only
squeeze in a last minute getaway at best, we
cannot just abandon protecting & replenish-
ing our skin!
Notice any difference in your hair and skin by
now? Well, don’t just blame the sun.
O ne thing I LOVE about enchanting New
Mexico is its Dry Summers!!
WAIT....
Before you turn the page, I’ll share something
with you. I grew up in Georgia, aka the steam
room. So, humidity is my perception of a light-
weight asthma problem. You can cut the air
with a knife! So,yes, I breath a whole lot better
in a dry climate like the Land of Enchantment,
but, I digress... The flip side to a dry climate is
it’s HOT.com Sun! It takes as little as 46 sec-
onds to get a sunburn IF you are not protect-
ed! Pick your poison. However, “summer-time
love” is coming to an end...but this sun is still
BLAZING! You, me, sisters, brothers, chil-
dren, and parents will continue to consume
these intense rays, well, all year. That’s right.
CHLORINE used to keep out harmful bacteria from
pool water can easily strip our hair and skin of the nat-
ural oils it produces. The effects of chlorine include:
* Dry Skin (Drier, if you already have problems retain-
ing moisture.)
* Brittle Hair (Oh, if you color your hair, it probably
pains you to touch it because sebum, the hair’s natural
lubricant, is stripped.)
Isn’t it amazing how a chemical added to PROTECT
us also causes cancer and other ailments?
Yes...for sure!
This is our ray of hope: Problems to our skin and hair
from chlorine won’t be life-threatening (under normal
occurrences). On the other hand, irritation to skin
and scalp can manifest through dry, itchy surfaces.
Summer is made for swimming and tanning, right?
Of course! Continue to enjoy it without worry because
