Question 5: I am motivated to do well in my studies
Combined Year 9 and 10
Students showed a significant increase in motivation to do well in their studies( from M = 3.18 to M = 3.54). A paired-samples t-test showed this improvement was statistically significant, t( 126) = – 3.98, p <. 001. The effect size was small-to-medium( Cohen’ s d = 0.36), representing the strongest positive shift across all six questions.
Year 9
Year 9 students showed a significant increase in motivation to do well in their studies( from M = 3.16 to M = 3.47). A paired-samples t-test found this improvement was statistically significant, t( 88) = – 2.92, p =. 005( two-tailed). The effect size was small-to-medium( Cohen’ s d = 0.31), indicating a meaningful positive shift in academic motivation.
Year 10
Year 10 students showed a significant increase in motivation to do well in their studies( from M = 3.24 to M = 3.68). A paired-samples t-test indicated this was a statistically significant improvement, t( 37) = – 2.82, p =. 008( two-tailed). The effect size was medium( Cohen’ s d = 0.50), representing the strongest positive change seen for Year 10 across all questions.
Question 6: I am determined to achieve my academic target grades
Combined Year 9 and 10
Students showed a small increase in their enjoyment of school( from M = 3.67 to M = 3.80). A paired-samples t-test indicated that the change was significant under a one-tailed test( p =. 047), but not significant under a two-tailed test( p =. 094). The effect size was very small( Cohen’ s d = 0.15), suggesting a modest but limited practical impact on students’ feelings about school.
Year 9
Year 9 students showed a small increase in determination to achieve their academic target grades( from M = 3.64 to M = 3.79), but this change was not statistically significant, t( 88) = – 1.49, p =. 14( two-tailed). The effect size was very small( Cohen’ s d = 0.16), indicating a minimal practical improvement.
Year 10
Year 10 showed a very small increase in determination to achieve their academic target grades( from M = 3.74 to M = 3.84), but this change was not statistically significant, t( 37) = – 0.78, p =. 44( two-tailed).
