STORIES AT HOME
By Sergio Rios
T
here’s this place.
A
wonderful
place. Some call
it a gathering place
where stories live and
adventure thrives. A little
place here in a small
city named Conyers
where lives are shared
through stories; such
beautiful stories. I found
out about this place just
like anyone else would,
by word from a friend.
There’s something about
a recommendation from
a friend, a good friend,
that just gives you peace
about trying something
new. It started with a
story of two passionate
and kind people who had
a dream and a vision to
open a coffee shop that
serves love with their
coffee. I thought they
were crazy too! I walked
into Awake
Coffee
Community in 2014
with a beautiful woman
that would one day be
my wife. The first thing
I received was a smile
and the second was a
hug. The coffee shop
was small at that time.
Well, smaller...and there
was this comfy couch
too. It was warm and
toasty. It was cold that
day, but inside stories
were waiting to be told
and to be created. This
article was originally
supposed to be about
entertainment.
That’s
a big word nowadays
which can be difficult
to define depending
on who you speak to.
The truth is that before
technology made its
mark,
entertainment
was defined as weekend
nights around a table
with your family and
friends. Entertainment
was
talking
about
each other’s dreams
and aspirations along
with how the day went
perhaps. Isn’t that how
stories began? Where
stories are told? Around
family and friends that
love you enough to sit
and chat? I found this at
AWAKE. I held it close
to me and in the process
decided to be a part of
the storytelling. So with
great pleasure, I will
conclude this article for
this fantastic newspaper
by saying that if you’re
ever on Main Street in
little Old Town Conyers
and you see a real “nifty”
sign that says AWAKE,
you should stop there
and come in for a coffee
or perhaps a danish. But
stay for the entertainment
because stories live there
and they are developed
there. It’ll all begin with
a smile, and then a hug
will follow if you ask for
it.
May your entertainment
be filled with adventure
and your heart filled with
love.

GEORGIA ON MY MIND
W
hen you think
of
wineries
in the United
States, what places come to
mind - California, Oregon,
Washington? Well, we have
wineries right here in our
very own great state of
Georgia.
winery is like a little piece
of Italy. Serenity Cellars is
suitably named because it
is lovely and very serene.
Out of the wines we tasted,
I found two jewels. Serenity
Cellars Majestic is a bold,
complex blend of Syrah,
Merlot,
Chambourcin,
Petit Syrah, Tempranillo,
Zinfandel,
Cabernet
Sauvignon, Malbec, and
Traminette. This wine had
notes of lovely dark fruit and
spice. The Bella was a wine
with notes of blackberry,
blueberry, and chocolate -
yes chocolate.
My final stop on the
tour was Yonah Mountain
Vineyards. This winery is
BREATHTAKING.
The
views are incredible, and
the wines are delicious. My
favorite wine was the Dutton
Chardonnay.
With Spring just around
the corner, pick a weekend
and travel up to the North
Georgia mountains and
enjoy some of what our great
state has to offer.
Makes for a great in-state
getaway.
Happy Spring and Cheers!

Corks and Cuvee
I recently took a trip to the
North Georgia mountains
on a quest to visit wineries.
There are many wineries in
that area. I went to three of
them. I just have to share this
experience with you.
My first winery stop
was CeNita Vineyards and
Winery. The vineyards were
beautiful and serene. I tasted
six different wines – CeNita
Cabernet Franc, CeNita
Red, CeNita Suavis, CeNita
Chambourcin, CeNita Vidal
Blanc, and CeNita Rouge.
I was unable to choose a
favorite because they were
all fantastic.
My second winery stop
was
Serenity
Cellars.
