Women in the colony:
During the Colony, the features of our nation were being formed and women have been a main support in society. There were four kinds of women in society, each one with different papers according to their race, but with a common dream, to have an acknowledged and transcendental role in society.
There were the white privileged women, who raised the children and supervised housework. While, mixed-race women had work outside home, and indigenous women were in charge of their own homes. African-americans were slaves with very heavy duties.
Literature“ Push” is an American novel set in a poor neighborhood in New York during the 1996s.
It tells us the story of Precious, a black obese 16 year old who struggles with her second pregnancy which is the result of her father’ s rape. She wants study and keep on with her life, but her abusive background won’ t let her, until her teacher helps her to get into a new school for people with the same problems as her. There, she discovers her love for literature and writing. That is until her mother comes with the new that her father died of AIDS and she finds out she has too.
This is an important book, because it shows us another reality of teenage pregnancy.
